Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Acquires Applied Immune Sciences
COLLEGEVILLE, PA--Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Inc. and Applied ImmuneSciences, Inc. (AIS) have entered into a definitive agreementand plan of merger providing for the acquisition by Rhône-PoulencRorer (through its subsidiary RPR Gencell) of AIS at a price ofapproximately $ million.
AIS is a leader in cell therapy. At the heart of AIS' technologyis a patented device, the AIS CELLector, that isolates specificpopulations of a patient's cells from blood, bone marrow, or tissuesamples, The cells may then be activated and numerically expandedprior to reinfusion.
The AIS research facility in Santa Clara, Calif, will become theprimary US operating headquarters for RPR Gencell with a focuson the development of ex vivo gene and cell therapy approaches,said Thierry Soursac, MD, PhD, senior vice president, RPR, andgeneral manager, RPR Gencell.
Mayne Pharma Limited and SuperGen, Inc. have signed a definitive agreement for Mayne Pharma to acquire the North American rights to Nipent® (pentostatin for injection) and SurfaceSafe(TM) from SuperGen, Inc. for a total maximum consideration of US$34 million inclusive of approximately US$14 million upfront at signing. The remaining payments are contingent on key events and product performance. The proposed transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
Nipent® is a treatment approved for patients with hairy cell leukemia and SurfaceSafe(TM) is a two step, towelette system to decontaminate surfaces where chemotherapy is mixed or administered.
Commenting on the acquisition today, Mayne Pharma's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Dr Thierry Soursac said, "A key element of Mayne Pharma's new strategy, presented last month, is to acquire niche marketed or close-to-market proprietary products that strengthen our oncology focus and leverage our development, manufacturing and marketing capabilities. I just finished a complete recording of “Comme des chansons” Vol. 1 by Thierry Tisserand.
Whenever I play a set of pieces, I like to know a little about the composer. Information on Tisserand, however, is thin on the ground. I can find only a brief and somewhat dated bio. So if anyone could point me to more information, I’ll be grateful. It would be particularly interesting to find an interview with the composer.
By the way, while looking for information, I browsed through the big river reviews of “Comme des chansons” Vol. 1. One reviewer wrote this: “Too bad we can’t listen to all the songs to get an idea and eventually correct ourselves.” Perhaps my recording fills this need.
