Intel’s Ex-Exec Raja Koduri Says “You Don’t Learn Without Shipping”

&#;

Intel had a tough Wishing Intel a wonderful and productive and a path forward. A lot has been written about Intel lately. Largely doom and gloom. Many in the industry, folks at intel and friends and family circles have reached out. Some don&#;t see any hope of turn around, others wondering if this is the low point and if they should invest now.

"Intel is so far behind on AI and have no strategy", "they are still many years behind TSMC on process technology" and the list goes from the Intel bears, who seem the majority now. Bulls have "hope" and the bears counter with "hope is not a plan".

I am in the bulls camp, and rest of the article outlines my perspective and opinion, which is the basis of my hope. My central thesis is that Intel needs to set itself an audacious product target that inspires their whole engineering to rally behind. To achieve these targets the entire technology stack that includes transistor physics, advanced packaging, silicon design and software architecture need to take shared risks.

There is chatter about splitting process technology

Ex-Intel exec, Raja Koduri, blames the bureaucratic 'PowerPoint snakes' within the company for its current issues: 'These processes multiply and coil around engineers'

Raja Koduri, the former chief architect and executive vice president of Intel's architecture, graphics and software division, has written an X article outlining his thoughts on the troubled waters Intel currently finds itself in. In his piece, he highlights Intel's current "treasures and snakes" and what he believes is the way forward for the company. Essentially, as he sums up in an accompanying tweet, "You don't learn when you don't ship."

Intel's treasures, according to Koduri, are its IP and technology, with many innovations left "sitting on shelf." The contrasting snakes, however, are defined as the bureaucratic process that Koruri sees as dominating corporate decision making, leaving innovation behind.

"The 'spreadsheet & PowerPoint snakes' – bureaucratic processes that dominate corporate decision-making—often fail to grasp the true cost of surrendering performance leadership.

"They optimize for minimizing quarterly losses while missing the bigger picture. These processes multiply and coi

Intel Makes Changes to Executive Team, Raja got Promoted

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced the addition of two new technology leaders to its executive leadership team, as well as several changes to Intel business units. Current Intel executives Sandra Rivera and Raja Koduri will each take on new senior leadership roles, and technology industry veterans Nick McKeown and Greg Lavender will join the company.

"Since re-joining Intel, I have been impressed with the depth of talent and incredible innovation throughout the company, but we must move faster to fulfill our ambitions," said Gelsinger. "By putting Sandra, Raja, Nick and Greg - with their decades of technology expertise - at the forefront of some of our most essential work, we will sharpen our focus and execution, accelerate innovation, and unleash the deep well of talent across the company."
As part of these changes, Intel's Data Platform Group (DPG) will be restructured into two new business units.
  • Sandra Rivera will take on a new role as executive vice president and general manager of Datacenter and AI. Rivera will lead this organization's focus on developing leadership data center products for a

Raja Koduri, Main Driver Of Intel’s GPU Efforts, To Leave Company

Raja Koduri is leaving Intel to form a software company after leading the company’s discrete graphics efforts for five years as chief architect for most of his tenure and, for a time, as the head of the chipmaker’s GPU business unit. A company spokesperson says his role as chief architect ‘will not be filled at this time.’

Raja Koduri, the chief driver behind Intel’s discrete GPU efforts, is leaving the semiconductor giant after spending more than five years leading the buildout of its graphics capabilities and other technologies.

The news was disclosed on Twitter by Koduri and Intel Pat Gelsinger, who also shared the announcement with employees in an internal memo seen by CRN.

Koduri will leave at the end of March after most recently serving as executive vice president and chief architect. He plans to start a new software company “focused on generative AI for gaming, media and entertainment,” Gelsinger said on Twitter and in his internal memo.
