Who Was Abraham Lincoln?
Abraham Lincoln was the 16thpresident of the United States, serving from to , and is regarded as one of America’s greatest heroes due to his roles in guiding the Union through the Civil War and working to emancipate enslaved people. His eloquent support of democracy and insistence that the Union was worth saving embody the ideals of self-government that all nations strive to achieve. In , he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves across the Confederacy. Lincoln’s rise from humble beginnings to achieving the highest office in the land is a remarkable story, and his death is equally notably. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in , at age 56, as the country was slowly beginning to reunify following the war. Penang-born fertility expert plans to establish state-of-the-art clinic in hometown
A PENANG-born luminary in fertility medicine who was honoured with a professorship at University College of London (UCL) is aiming to bring his expertise home.
Professor Tan Seang Lin, 70, has plans to establish a state-of-the-art fertility clinic in his hometown, offering advanced treatments at minimal costs to Malaysians.
“Imagine a woman in Penang accessing the same sophisticated fertility care as someone in London. That’s the future I want to be building,” he said in an interview.
Stressing that "fertility care shouldn't be a luxury", Prof Tan said his formative years as a Penangite gave him his roots and inspired him to start such a clinic in Penang to give back to society.
He is the first Malaysian, Penangite and Penang Free School boy to receive a professorship at UCL.
Titled the "Professor Tan Seang Lin, Dr Grace Tan and Origin Elle Fertility Distinguished Chair in Women's Health", this is now a permanent position at UCL.
Dr Grace, 65, is Prof Tan's wife and holds a PhD in health management from Oxford University. The position is backed by an indefinite £, (RMm) annual endowment

He and his team were the first in Canada to use in-vitro maturation of human oocytes for the treatment of infertility, as well as in-vitro maturation and vitrification of oocytes to preserve fertility in young women undergoing cancer treatment.
