Graduate Student Funding: Fellowships, Assistantships & Scholarships

Assistantships

Many departments across the university offer Graduate Assistantships for both doctoral and master’s students with various benefits. You can search for them at the UF Jobs Site by clicking on Student Assistant under the Work Type filter. Common places include:

• UF Teaching Center– Hires GAs from a variety of disciplines as supplemental instruction leaders and coordinators of Teaching Center programs.
• The Hawkins Center– Hires content or strategy prep (time management, etc.) tutors for student-athletes. They also hire Assistant Learning Specialist Interns (which is often like a 2-year assistantship). Prefers education majors.
• Academic Advising Center– Hires year-round GAs. Previous grads have come from counselor ed, higher ed, SPHE, and educational leadership.
• Department of Housing – accepts all majors. Previous housing experience is preferred but not required.
• GatorWell Health Promotions – accepts all majors
• Counseling and Wellness Center&#; Occasionally has a position for a Crisis Intervention Consultant. Counseling major required.

  Assistantships and Awards

  Overview

  The Graduate School has several types of awards available to graduate students including graduate assistantships, tuition waivers, fellowships, and scholarships. Colleges and other university offices also offer a variety of awards. Graduate student awards are offered on a competitive basis. Full-time university staff are ineligible for awards offered by the Graduate School. Students are encouraged to make a financial plan to pay for graduate school including federal student loans, institutional aid and/or external funding. The Graduate School has resources to assist you including Paying for College Tips and our&#;Cost Calculator. We strongly recommend contacting the Office of Financial Aid for additional information.

  Some awards require a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete the FAFSA online and enter&#;UNF's school code: &#;For more information, refer to the&#;Financial Aid Checklist.&#;Please note that students may not be able to accept multiple awards and, if necessary, will be required to forfeit an award.

About the Fellowship:The Delores Auzenne Fellowship provides academically talented new domestic doctoral students who contribute diversity in MDS graduate programs with opportunities for funding and recognition. Students should represent individuals who are historically underrepresented in specific disciplines along the dimensions of ethnicity and gender. Application/Nomination Process:There will be approximately 2 awards made each year. As part of the application package, the Department/School should provide a letter of support (not to exceed words) that describes how this student meets the qualifications for receiving this Fellowship and why this student is a good fit for the Department. In addition, please provide the student's letter of intent or student essay from their application packet, as well as an unofficial transcript and test scores (if required).
