On November 25 ANÚNA release a 13 track digital album "Christmas from Ireland" recorded in Saint Bartholomew's Church, Dublin. It was recorded for the acclaimed Voces8 Series "Live from London" in December
“This album was the first time we were back together as a group for nearly a year, and tied into a performance in an empty church that was being filmed. There was no audience and it was a somewhat frightening experience not knowing what way ANÚNA was going to come back, if it all. This could have been the end for all we knew, so much love and care went into the creation of these pieces as a result of that. But we survived.
Featuring ANÚNA classics including three Irish carols - "Jerusalem", "The Wexford Carol" and the crystalline "The First Day" - the album is a fitting representation of ANÚNA during the Christmas season.

I set up ANÚNA in and the journey since then has been a unique and challenging one.
I could write a biography here but there is enough on my own site HERE and on those of ANÚNA, M’ANAM and Systir to indicate what my life’s work has been all about to date. I met my wife Lucy on this long road and our greatest creation has been our children Aisling and Lauren. It is very special for us to read about them on these pages. The joy I felt when I first experienced choral music was something that I wanted to be available to everyone to experience and so I set all this up to create a choral voice for Ireland itself. As there was no indigenous choral music on this island, I felt we could be anything we wanted, not just be a pale shadow of the voices of another culture.
Primarily I wanted to make something new that was intrinsically Irish, building on our rich cultural traditions and finding a way of expressing them in a communal form that sang of our past and future. I don’t believe that that has happened as I envisioned. Rather than make a lasting impact on Irish music my work has unexpectedly travelled across the world, igniting varied and thrilling responses from creative artis
Michael’s music has been commissioned, recorded and performed by ensembles that include Chanticleer, the BBC Singers, Rajaton, Voces8, Apollo5, theNational Youth Choir of Great Britain, Grammy-winning US ensembles Conspirare and the Phoenix Chorale. These include "Amhrán na Gaoithe" for Chanticleer and "O pia virgo" for New York Polyphony which appears on their Grammy nominated CD Sing Thee Nowell. In Kansas City Chorale released an entire CD dedicated to Michael’s compositions entitled Artifacts : The Music of Michael McGlynn which won a Grammy Award for Production in
He has written songs in many genres, collaborating with The Wiggles, Elvis Costello and with country music legend Rodney Crowell whose acclaimed album Close Ties includes a song written with Michael and features Crowell duetting with Sheryl Crow. In the Platinum/Nintendo video game Bayonetta Origins was released with the title song featuring a lyric composed by him to a melody by Hitomi Kurokawa and sung by his daughter Lauren McGlynn.
As a tenor soloist Michael specialised in early music repertoire and in that capacity shared a stage with Jeff Buckley at Elvis Cost
