I am a dedicated young researcher focused on designing advanced, efficient and intelligent IoT communication systems that aim to enhance our society's efficiency, security, and sustainability. I always think maybe one day the technologies I contribute to will revolutionize daily human life.
My research primarily revolves around designing power-efficient and secure systems for compact embedded devices in the IoT realm. I am deeply interested in the intersection of Wireless Communication, Embedded System, Machine Learning and Security.
Currently, I am in my final year of Ph.D. study at the Uppsala University in Sweden. My Ph.D. study is under the supervision of Prof. Christian Rohner and Prof. Thiemo Voigt. Throughout my Ph.D. journey, I have had the privilege of collaborating closely with Prof. Ambuj Varshney from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Prof. Prabal Dutta from the University of California, Berkeley. I received an M.S. degree in Information and Network Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in , advised by Prof. Rolf Stadler, and I graduated with a degree in Communication Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, China,

I'm often asked what inspires me to create, and it's impossible to explain without the full context of my life's influences.
I grew up under the polluted grey skies of China. As a shy and introverted child, I always had a love and fascination for nature. Many hours were spent watching nature documentaries, and imagining myself in these distant green fantasies with curious lifeforms of every kind.
I expressed my love for nature through drawing, and by age 2 I was doodling animals on everything. It was also the time when my father became a workaholic and left to pursue unrealistic ideals of wealth. He grew up in complete poverty of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, living off of rats, tree bark, and clay during the fanime. To him, money meant survival. My mother felt abandoned and devastated, so by the time I was 5, she left China to pursue the American dream with the promise of reuniting all of us in the mythical land of America. In Chinese, America translates to "Beautiful Country". It was also in order to own a dog, because it was illegal to do so in China at the time.

Q: Why do you call yourself "Yuumei", and what does it mean?
A: Yuumei is the username I chose when I first got my deviantART account at the age of As I posted more and more art under that username, Yuumei simply became my 2nd name.
Yuumei (幽冥 or 幽明) means light and darkness, strange and deep, hades, and semidarkness. Not to be confused with yuumei (有名) which ironically means famous. The 12 year old me who picked this name did not foresee this.
