MLA Chhagan Bhujbal
Early Life and Education
Chhagan Bhujbal was born on October 15, , in Nashik, Maharashtra. He belongs to the Mali caste, a community traditionally involved in agriculture, which later influenced his political ideologies focused on the upliftment of backward classes. Bhujbal pursued his education in Nashik, laying the foundation for a career that would see him become one of Maharashtras most influential politicians.
Political Career
Bhujbal began his political journey with the Shiv Sena, where he was known for his strong oratory skills and grassroots connections. However, due to ideological differences, particularly on issues related to caste, he left the Shiv Sena in and joined the Indian National Congress (INC). This move marked a significant shift in his career, eventually leading him to become a key figure in Maharashtra politics. Later, when Sharad Pawar formed the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in , Bhujbal followed him and has remained a senior leader in the NCP since then.
He has held several key ministerial positions in Maharashtra, including Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Public Works, and Minister of Home Affairs. Bhujbal has also
Chhagan Bhujbal: The Comeback Man
A middle class family, an old building, a kidnapping, a deadly gangster, political bigwigs, a high profile press conference, an encounter and, a traumatized widow fighting for justice. These may be the perfect ingredients for a blockbuster Bollywood potboiler. But these characters and events arent from a Bollywood film but part of a scandal that rocked, plagued and almost brought the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP alliance to its knees in Maharashtra.
In , Chhagan Bhujbal, Leader of Opposition, in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, held a press conference at his residence and introduced Sheila Kini, the widow of Ramesh Kini. Bhujbal claimed that he had rescued her and went on to level sensational allegations against the state’s biggest political family.
The Kinis owned a flat in Laxmi Nivas, an old building in the suburb of Matunga. The landlord Suman Shah and Raj Thackeray, who was a rising star in the Shiv Sena and owned a construction firm named Matoshree Realtors, wanted the Kinis to vacate their flat so that they could go ahead with their redevelopment plans. Bhujbal alleged that when the Kinis refused to toe the line, Raj Thackeray summoned
Chhagan Bhujbal: The opportunist who went from Godse to Gandhi to Phule
Mumbai: Long before Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sakshi Maharaj called Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, a martyr, there was a rising politician in Mumbai who said India should be building statues of Godse instead of Gandhi. This was Chhagan Chandrakant Bhujbal as the Mumbai mayor in
The short but sturdy Bhujbal was the quintessential Shiv Sainik then—bellicose, bombastic, and brute. He loved theatrics and the Sena offered him the stage for many of his acts. In itself, Bhujbal, who now paints himself as the ‘wronged’ leader of the other backward classes (OBC), sprinkled cow urine, considered pure by some Hindu obscurantists, on the famous Hutatma Chowk monument (Flora Fountain in the colonial lingo) to ‘purify’ it because a massive Dalit rally had taken place there.
On 14 March , when Bhujbal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, his supporters said this was an assault on the thoughts of Jyotiba Phule, Shahu Maharaj and Bhimrao Ambedkar, all great social reformers. His supporters and NCP legislators in Maharashtra assembly prote

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has complained to the election commission (EC) that the names of Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal's wife and both his daughters-in-law are listed in the voters' list in Mumbai as well as in Nashik.
Somaiya has alleged in his complaint that this was a well-planned operation by the Nationalist Congress Party, of which Bhujbal is a prominent leader, to rig the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
"The episode when the NCP supremo, Sharad Pawar, asked people to vote twice is well known. On one side, the names of lakhs of voters were deleted and on the other hand the wives of a Cabinet minister, an MLA and a member of Parliament are enrolled in two places. The names of Meena Bhujbal, Visakha Bhujbal and Shefali Bhujbal were found in Nashik as well as Byculla constituencies," the letter stated.
